Summer is here and we have to agree that it is a time for fun and relaxation. This is the time when we take vacations, we really take it easy. The problem is that we get so used to summer that we forget about dress code in church. Yes, Church that place that we also call the House of God, but now a days most people don’t realize who live in it… Well here is the mambo… We get so used to being in tune with the fashion trends, that we haven’t realize that what is fashionable for the world is not fashionable for us Catholics.
Why people come to church wearing shorts or spaghetti string, or holster tops, or they come as it was a gym… I don’t know what is going on with our conscience. If the President of the USA invite you to eat at the white house, for a dinner, not lunch, a dinner… I really doubt that you will attend in the same attire you go to the beach or to a sport event; why is this? Because the president is an important person.
OK so he is, but is he more important then God? And if God is so important in our lives … why don’t we give Him the respect that He deserves? The other day a youth minister from our diocese told me: Fr… Don’t worry about the clothing.. do you think that God really cares about the outside? He cares more about your soul, that’s the important thing!” my reply… Well he also said that if your eye cause you to sin, then take it out, well I would rather take you to the store and buy you a nice dress, pants or shirt than remove my eye, because is the inside what it counts, but what about the way that you are causing your brothers and sisters to sin because of the scandal.
The only scandal that I will accept is the scandal of the cross, not other one, no the one caused by the people who don’t understand what is to be respectfully dressed in the House of God.
So please, next time, before you go to church… take a good look in the mirror and ask yourself if that is what you want God to see.
