Who is giving more?

VIUDA POBREHere is today’s Gospel:

In the course of his teaching Jesus said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets.  They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext, recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation.”

He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums.  A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.  Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, “Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury.  For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.”

There is nothing wrong in giving.  Actually is better to give than to receive.   But sometimes I ask… who is giving more? So many times our ego gets in the middle of our heart and our desire and then the problem start. So many people let their ego take over and when they do something they fall into the cracks because they want the people to “see what I’m doing” they forget about love. Yes, love… it has to be present when we do stuff for others.

Nobody is exempt of this, even us priests, sometimes we can fall into the category of rockstars and get blinded.  Love is the requirement that we need in our lives to give God not what we have, but what we don’t have.

Let me give you an example.  TIME… we have no time… we need a 27 hours day… for what? If you have a 27 hours day… where’s going to be God? I bet that there will be something more important that will show up that will not allow you to give some time to Him.  I know this because there is so many people that leave church immediately after receiving Holy Communion… I don’t think they realize Who they have just received… but once again there are more important things in our live than the first commandment….

You see… in today’s Godspell the widow gave everything to God… by doing this she put all her trust in our Father, knowing that he will provide.  Why can we do the same thing?

Let’s allow love to take over our live, let’s allow love to govern our live.  If we do that… we no longer will shine, but Christ will shine trough us, Christ will act trough us… and I guarantee that we will be not only happy, but holy.

Let’s keep praying for each other
